I first met Tom Bagguley after he took off on vacation and flew across the pond to hang out with us on Rocky Mountain Race Week a couple years ago. Now he’s been back and forth a couple of times, bought a turbocharged, LS swapped, Fox Mustang sight unseen for cheap, and has been participating in these events with us all over the country. This dude is doing it on the cheap, having a great time, and is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. On this year’s Rocky Mountain Race Week, he hurt a piston on day one and started out the trip by having to swap it out. In a parking lot. By himself. The dude is a legend, a monster, a dude, and we love him for it. Check out the Rocky Mountain Race Week highlight video on his piston swapping adventures below.

You know we dig Michael Bello’s around here, and it isn’t just because he’s funny and likes to talk about lunch all the time. Nope, it’s because he has a great attitude, is all smiles, and totally downplays his skills in metal shaping. He builds some really cool and fun cars and is just a good watch that I enjoy. In this video here he’s starting in on a new project for a customer who wants to take his two door post 1951 Chevrolet and make it into a hardtop. That sounds easy, but it isn’t, or at least not when Bello does it right. In addition, this thing is getting the drip rails shaved and the chop topped, so this is just Part 1 of the series.

If you aren’t quite sure what the difference is between a hard top and post car, the post car has a frame all around the door glass that is a part of the door. There is also a post behind the door, between the door glass and quarter windows. So if you rolled down both the front and rear windows on a post car you’ll still have a big post between the two. On a hard top car there are no frames around anything and if you open the windows the entire side of the car is open with no post.

On a 1951 Chevrolet post car, the rear side windows don’t roll down. On a hard top they do. So Bello has a lot to do to make this right and to make it feel like a real hard top custom. Check out the build, starting now.

“We have done so much with so little for so long, we can now do anything with nothing.” – Dave Marcus had this saying posted above the door of his shop and while we have read it a ton, we’ve never been able to pinpoint who actually said it. Either way, the words come to life in the below video. Why? Because you will watch a group of young guys build a radiator, a decent sized one, from a couple of old hunks of bad radiators. They do all the work by hand, outside, on the curb next to the road. It is both amazing and really awesome to see this step by step process that has them doing stuff we never would have guessed.

There’s a torch, solder, a hacksaw, a big cistern with water in it, some rubber hose, and lots of experience and skill here. The only thing they do not make in front of us are the tanks and we’re guessing even these guys have to source SOMETHING to complete the job. For all we know they are pressing them out in the back room, which also would not shock us.

We love the skill and old school work shown here. These guys have likely done hundreds, hell, thousands of radiators in their lives and they are by no means old men.

Another great reminder that if there is a will, some fire, some knowledge, and a few bucks to be made, there’s a way.

Do you ever find yourself standing in front of a rack full of wheel cleaners at O’Reilly Auto Parts wondering which one actually works worth a darn, and whether you should buy the one for $7.99 or $17.99? I do, and then I often get home and find they don’t do nearly the miracle transformation that I was imagining while standing in front of said rack. But I can’t afford to go buy 5 or 10 different wheel cleaners just to try them all out. Thankfully Project Farm has a keen sense of smell when it comes to BS claims and loves putting stuff to the test. In this case, he’s pitting several brands of wheel cleaners up against each other to see how they rank and if you should use your hard earned money on them.

Know that deal around Christmas time when there’s a channel you can flip on and watch nothing but a burning Yule Log all day? There needs to be a gearhead version of that which would go 365 days a year and simple show machining operations happening. This video is proof of the concept because we guarantee that once you press play, you’ll be as enthralled as we were when we started watching. Machining is one of the most important things that mankind has developed over the years. Okay gang, it’s time to start working on this thing. Derek and Dave decided to get their thrash on to see how finished they can get this thing for Derek to take it to the Nashville stop on Hot Rod’s Power Tour. Derek called in Dirthead Dave Chappelle for his expertise on the air ride and such, but also because Dave is committed to making this thing be a Ford again instead of having a Mopar engine up front and a bunch of other hodgepodge parts.

I love the look of this thing, but it sure doesn’t work well. It’s got a hodgepodge of parts in it and now it is time for Derek to get it fixed up the right way so it can be driven more. You are going to dig where it is going and the thrash that they are putting into it in order to get it ready to rock at Hot Rod’s Power Tour.

Whenever we can learn stuff from Pete, we do. This guy is super smart and absolutely generous with his information. So when Pete says he’s going to share the cardinal rule of turbo charging, he means with regards to drag racing. And that is power management, meaning be able to achieve your desired boost level on the starting line every single time. Because if you don’t start a run with the boost where you want it, and you don’t have the control of that boost down low, you won’t be successful going down the track. In the last video or two, Brent worked on several different things and ultimately got the air ride system in the truck and working which we so dig. In this one he’s finishing up some work on the custom rocker panel running boards for this thing, which means making cutouts so the doors can still open. It’s a cool look but takes some fiddling to make it right. And he’s trying to decide on a set of wheels and tires for this project! Are these the right ones? This is one cool project and you are going to dig it. There is so much more to come, but we hope this video inspires you to get out in the shop to work on your stuff too. This project is one that Brent has had sitting around for some time and has just been waiting to get back onto it. It isn’t your average 1949 GMC, as it is mounted on a modified Caprice chassis and has had the top chopped off of it. The plan is for it to have a removable Carson style top, lots of custom metal work, and more. It’s going to be a full custom style ride but that means it needs A LOT of work. One thing I find funny is that while in most circumstances you want to start a project with the cleanest and straightest ride you can, but when you are building a custom that is going to get a lot of custom metal work anyway, then why not start with something rough? This truck certainly qualifies.

In previous videos, Brent pancaked the hood on this thing, modified the fenders, planned out the bumper, shortened the chassis, shaved stuff, built a one off custom bed and more. There is a lot going on with this project and a lot planned for this thing, although to say that might make you think there is a whole list of what is going to happen to it. But that isn’t exactly Brent’s speed. He works as he goes, tries stuff to see how it looks, and will cut and weld and remove and replace, until it has the look he wants. We love it and it is inspiring.

With epic car chases, crashes, jumps, and even cars and trucks in starring roles, Hollywood absolutely embraced cars as part of the cast of characters.  And to this day, even after a bit of a lull, car related movies thrive. One of the biggest franchises in movie history, the Fast and Furious movies, revolve around cars in every scene. But what makes these movies tick is the people and equipment that are being filmed. We’re talking stunt cars and stunt drivers. I have had the privilege of being on set for filming at some pretty cool car movies, and have been on site for the building of several cool stunt cars, and there is a lot that goes into them. Some more trick than you would think, and some WAY more simple than you can imagine.
