I first met Tom Bagguley after he took off on vacation and flew across the pond to hang out with us on Rocky Mountain Race Week a couple years ago. Now he’s been back and forth a couple of times, bought a turbocharged, LS swapped, Fox Mustang sight unseen for cheap, and has been participating in these events with us all over the country. This dude is doing it on the cheap, having a great time, and is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. On this year’s Rocky Mountain Race Week, he hurt a piston on day one and started out the trip by having to swap it out. In a parking lot. By himself. The dude is a legend, a monster, a dude, and we love him for it. Check out the Rocky Mountain Race Week highlight video on his piston swapping adventures below.

Whenever we can learn stuff from Pete, we do. This guy is super smart and absolutely generous with his information. So when Pete says he’s going to share the cardinal rule of turbo charging, he means with regards to drag racing. And that is power management, meaning be able to achieve your desired boost level on the starting line every single time. Because if you don’t start a run with the boost where you want it, and you don’t have the control of that boost down low, you won’t be successful going down the track. The good news is that there has never been more technology, knowledge, or available help than there is right now. So watch this video from Pete and see if you can learn something.

The best part is that you can do all the testing of this you want, without ever going to the dragstrip!

I’ve got a Gen 2 LT1 in a 1956 Chevy, and it has always been a fun engine. It’s mostly stock, but when we put a stand alone EFI on it and significantly improved ignition, we were able to squeeze a surprising amount of extra power out of it. Who doesn’t love a chopped 1935 Ford pickup truck? Well whoever owns it when it doesn’t run or drive well enough to be fun, that’s who. And in this case it’s Derek from Vice Grip Garage. I love the look of this thing, but it sure doesn’t work well. It’s got a hodgepodge of parts in it and now it is time for Derek to get it fixed up the right way so it can be driven more. He’s pulling in some help from some friends, which I love, so stay tuned for the next couple of videos on this project as well. We’re fans of the tech that is shared by the Powell Machine crew, and the two videos below are no different. If you don’t understand how a carburetor works, with regards to idle circuits, main circuits, power valves, and more, then you want to watch this.

For an automotive part that is often referred to as super simple and old school tech, there are really a bunch of cool tech going on inside them. I’ve owned lots of carbureted cars, and several that are fuel injected. And while I love my Holley EFI, I still totally dig my Holley carburetors too.

We talk about junkyard LS engines all the time around here, and I’ve personally had LS powered vehicles with nearly 300,000 miles on them. Hell, one of them gave up it’s engine for one of Richard Holdener’s Big Bang projects and made over 1,400 horsepower on the original rods, pistons, rings, bearings, and crankshaft, with over 279,000 miles on them. So let’s say you find a 250,000 to 300,000 mile Silverado that runs and drives but could use some love. Is it worth fixing it up a bit in order to make it into a nice driver?

In this video from Project Farm, he’s going to take his analytic approach to deciding what is worth fixing up and what isn’t. I think you can save a lot of vehicles, if I didn’t I wouldn’t be a hot rodder, but that doesn’t mean they are always a smart project. So what do we think?

Includes rust repair, front end rebuild, complete tune up, axle hub bearing replacement, fluid changes, new brakes and rotors, front end alignment, headlight bulb replacement, MAF sensor cleaning, tensioner pulley bearing replacement, fan clutch replacement, axle seal replacement, and A/C freon level check.
