Okay gang, it’s time to start working on this thing. Derek and Dave decided to get their thrash on to see how finished they can get this thing for Derek to take it to the Nashville stop on Hot Rod’s Power Tour. Derek called in Dirthead Dave Chappelle for his expertise on the air ride and such, but also because Dave is committed to making this thing be a Ford again instead of having a Mopar engine up front and a bunch of other hodgepodge parts.

I love the look of this thing, but it sure doesn’t work well. It’s got a hodgepodge of parts in it and now it is time for Derek to get it fixed up the right way so it can be driven more. You are going to dig where it is going and the thrash that they are putting into it in order to get it ready to rock at Hot Rod’s Power Tour.

I’ve got a Gen 2 LT1 in a 1956 Chevy, and it has always been a fun engine. It’s mostly stock, but when we put a stand alone EFI on it and significantly improved ignition, we were able to squeeze a surprising amount of extra power out of it. In the last video, Brent blasted rust off of it with a trick laser he bought online. In this one he’s finishing up some work on the rear of the bed and getting the air ride compressors and tank installed up under it. This is one cool project and you are going to dig it. There is so much more to come, but we hope this video inspires you to get out in the shop to work on your stuff too. Check it out and let us know what you think.

This project is one that Brent has had sitting around for some time and has just been waiting to get back onto it. It isn’t your average 1949 GMC, as it is mounted on a modified Caprice chassis and has had the top chopped off of it. The plan is for it to have a removable Carson style top, lots of custom metal work, and more. It’s going to be a full custom style ride but that means it needs A LOT of work. One thing I find funny is that while in most circumstances you want to start a project with the cleanest and straightest ride you can, but when you are building a custom that is going to get a lot of custom metal work anyway, then why not start with something rough? This truck certainly qualifies.

In previous videos, Brent pancaked the hood on this thing, modified the fenders, planned out the bumper, shortened the chassis, shaved stuff, built a one off custom bed and more. There is a lot going on with this project and a lot planned for this thing, although to say that might make you think there is a whole list of what is going to happen to it. But that isn’t exactly Brent’s speed. He works as he goes, tries stuff to see how it looks, and will cut and weld and remove and replace, until it has the look he wants. We love it and it is inspiring.

For an automotive part that is often referred to as super simple and old school tech, there are really a bunch of cool tech going on inside them. I’ve owned lots of carbureted cars, and several that are fuel injected. And while I love my Holley EFI, I still totally dig my Holley carburetors too.

Well he’s back at it, but nothing can be simple with Finnegan. Well at least the suspension install will be as he’s working on the rear of his OBS truck this time. The rear needs lowering just like the front, so he’s installing a complete Ridetech system on this survivor truck. Then he’s going to make it louder and faster of course, but first things first.

In Episode 299 of Mike Finnegan’s Garage we continue modifying my 1998 GMC Sierra W/T. I bought this truck in Texas with just over 12,000 miles on the odometer and then drove it about 1,000 miles back home to Georgia. Now it’s time to make it lower, louder and faster in time to show it off at the 2024 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the first season of Polishing Turds on the Real Good At Doin’ Stuff HED YouTube channel there was another small block that got the love and made considerably more power afterwards. In this new season, our pal Cody is getting the Polishing Turds treatment for his 360 cubic inch 23 degree headed small block. It has just over 9:1 compression, and is force fed boost by an F1X ProCharger. This new season of not only interesting to me because it’s Cody, but also because this combo is very similar to our own 400 inch F1X ProCharged small block.
