Okay gang, it’s time to start working on this thing. Derek and Dave decided to get their thrash on to see how finished they can get this thing for Derek to take it to the Nashville stop on Hot Rod’s Power Tour. Derek called in Dirthead Dave Chappelle for his expertise on the air ride and such, but also because Dave is committed to making this thing be a Ford again instead of having a Mopar engine up front and a bunch of other hodgepodge parts.

I love the look of this thing, but it sure doesn’t work well. It’s got a hodgepodge of parts in it and now it is time for Derek to get it fixed up the right way so it can be driven more. You are going to dig where it is going and the thrash that they are putting into it in order to get it ready to rock at Hot Rod’s Power Tour.

Who doesn’t love a chopped 1935 Ford pickup truck? Well whoever owns it when it doesn’t run or drive well enough to be fun, that’s who. And in this case it’s Derek from Vice Grip Garage. I love the look of this thing, but it sure doesn’t work well. It’s got a hodgepodge of parts in it and now it is time for Derek to get it fixed up the right way so it can be driven more. He’s pulling in some help from some friends, which I love, so stay tuned for the next couple of videos on this project as well. You are going to dig where it is going and the thrash that they are putting into it in order to get it ready to rock at Hot Rod’s Power Tour.

Every time you pickup another vehicle that has been sitting for decades, there are some pretty standard things you have to address. To run, any internal combustion engine needs fuel, air, and spark, so making sure that those three systems are working are key. But in order to make sure each of those is working there are some differences depending on the ride. And lots of the potential issues that can cause a lack of fuel or spark can be attributed to electrical systems and those can be hard to diagnose sometimes. The point is that sometimes it takes more love than you might think to make something run and drive after years of sitting.

Thankfully there is a lot of love to give at Vice Grip Garage and that love makes most things run and drive home, regardless of how long they have been sitting. Will the love work this time though? This Jeep might put up a fight.

Newbern Body Swaps His Postal Jeep! Putting A Newer TJ Chassis Under This Mail Jeep Will Make It Way Better Than Ever!

Postal Jeeps, aka Jeep DJs, were two wheel drive units that were marketed as light delivery vehicles starting in 1955 and continuing through the mid 1980s. There was even a time when a convertible top model was produced and became popular in tropical climates for use at resorts and such. But the most common Jeep DJ any of us sees is the venerable “Mail”, or “Postal” Jeep, and Newbern’s got one. These used to be a popular and cheap Jeep to buy when the post office quit using them years ago, but in most of those cases folks were swapping out the solid front beam axle for a Dana 44 or something similar in order to build a hard top 4×4 Jeep. But what about doing a chassis swap instead? Why not swap the mail Jeep onto a good TJ chassis?

Scott is a longtime stick shift guy, who has done tons of stick shift swaps and has daily driven stick cars for years. So when he made a small mistake on the install of his McLeod RXT clutch during a Magnum 6 speed conversion from American Powertrain, it was sort of disheartening. Thankfully, the gang at McLeod helped him figure out the issue and that’s what the video is about. Check it out.

The clutch I installed in my 65 Chevy Impala, Project Evil Orchid, went bad on day 1 of Rocky Mountain Race Week, RMRW 1.0, last year. I need to find out what happened. What did I do wrong? The BluePrint Engines Power Adder small block 400 has been running great, as well as the American Powertrain T-56 Magnum six speed. The clutch is a RXT Twin Disc from McLeod was working perfect, until I did something to make it not perfect. McLeod has been great trying to help me diagnose the problem. But, it’s necessary to pull the transmission to find the problem, and get to it fixed.

I am so confident in McLeod’s products, I ordered another RXT from them, and will send back the old one to be inspected and rebuilt.

Last spring Dave broke his Jeep and it has NOT been fixed for this year’s Easter Jeep Safari. It isn’t like he can’t fix it, but since he’s been wheeling with, and working on, his fullsize rigs they are the ones he’s been keeping going. So to stay with that theme, he’s taking Mom’s Spaghetti, the 1991 Ford F-350 stepside to Moab for EJS. But not before it gets some love. Watch.

It’s time for Easter Jeep Safari again, and my Jeep is still broken from last year. Time to start preparing my 1991 Ford F-350 Mom’s Spaghetti for the trip to Moab Utah. I tackle some issues with the transmission, rear suspension, and even add a little Bling with a metalflake steering wheel.

How To: Installing a McLeod RXT Street Twin Clutch on RebelDryver’s BluePrint Engines 400 Small Block!

It is incredibly rare to find anyone that daily drives a stick shift car anymore. It’s also rare to find folks that drive classic cars daily. Both in one is almost unheard of, but Scott Liggett is one of those guys that has daily driven a stick shift classic car for most of the past 20 years. In this video he’s installing a McLeod twin disc clutch on a bitchin Blueprint small-block that is going into his 1965 Impala.

At a recent media trade conference with a lot of motorsports parts companies, I had meetings with a couple of clutch companies, including McLeod. In all those meetings, I remarked on the fact that I bet not one single media person in attendance drove a stick car every day, except me. While they did not pole each and every attendee, since the conference had already started, I can say that not one single media person they talked to after speaking with me could say that they did in fact drive a car with a clutch pedal every day.

But we all know that it is WAY more fun to drive a stick car and that it always feels faster than an automatic, even if it isn’t. So that means that a lot of you want a stick in your hot rod and we don’t blame you one bit. So in this video here, Scott is going to show you just how easy it is to install a twin disc clutch. It’s not hard. It’s not something that you can’t handle and should be afraid of. It’s the way to get extreme clamping force with very little pedal effort. It’s THE kind of clutch that makes a huge difference in the performance and drivability of your hot rod.

McLeod Racing makes a whole bunch of different clutches from stock replacement to full race clutches. I have used them for years with great success. Today, we are installing McLeod’s RXT Street Twin in our 1965 Chevy Impala SS. Our Project Evil Orchid Impala has a BluePrint Power Adder 400 with an American Powertrain T-56 Magnum 6 speed transmission.

Today, I will be showing how easy it is to install one of these twin disc clutches from McLeod. They provide super easy to follow instructions, plus they mark each piece so there is no guess work on how these clutches install.
